Senior Accountant - 14 Month Contract

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the individual will be part of the accounting team responsible for accounting functions with a focus on managing the monthly journals, account reconciliations, and also tracking and analyzing capital assets and expenses.                                   

About the Opportunity

  • Lead the month-end process ensuring the the finance team follows through and executes individual responsibilities
  • Month End/Year End: Book journals (Prepaid, accruals, depreciation, re-classes, corrections, etc.) including Re-Value Entries for foreign denominated accounts, within a three-day close deadline
  • Generate Cost Centre Analysis report monthly to review, analyze and discuss with the Accounting Supervisor and Manager. Distribute cost centre analysis to the Cost Center Managers
  • Complete monthly financial package reports
  • Complete monthly EBT estimate due mid-month
  • Complete assigned quarterly reports
  • Monitor and clear aged credits from the accounts receivable sub-ledgers
  • Prepare working papers, analysis and support for auditors
  • Complete account reconciliations
  • Clear accrued freight and purchases; requires investigation of any discrepancies
  • Process customer volume rebates, third party commission and supplier rebates
  • HST, QST, GST Remittances - prep work only
  • Responsible to manage Capital Purchase requests and project tracking; prepare report and facilitate meeting outlining approved projects, status, spending and completion dates
  • Filings regarding sales and inventory figures
  • Assist with preparing the 2020 budget
  • Support finance team with analyzing the General Ledger accounts and resolving issues
  • Coordinate issuance of certificates of insurance
  • Support for Accounting Supervisor, Manager, Controller and Finance staff when necessary
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by Accounting Supervisor and Manager
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, GMP’s and HACCP requirements

About You

  • College/University diploma/degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Must have CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation
  • 3 years’ of general accounting experience
  • Exposure to food manufacturing and distribution an asset
  • Strong communication skills
  • Interacts professionally at all levels both internally and externally
  • Ability to give strong attention to detail and accuracy of work
  • Time management and adaptable to change is important
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, specifically Excel

Pay Rate

$33/hour
