Plant Controller

About the Opportunity

  • Day-to-day responsibility for all financial accounting and reporting (weekly, monthly, quarterly) including variance analysis and commentary, account reconciliations
  • Provision of accurate, timely financial analysis to support the plant manager and operations including labour and production reporting and variance analysis. Continuous development and enhancement of reporting to support margin delivery, cost control and improved decision making
  • Development and implementation of activity-based standard costing in the plant to build on the ERP re-implementation then working tirelessly to embed a standard costing philosophy and variance accounting culture within the site. Updating and refinement of standard costs on at least an annual basis thereafter
  • Preparation of annual budgets and periodical forecasts, working cross-functionally with the various departments, to help drive a predictable and high-performance culture within the organization
  • Financial oversight of plant inventory including inventory counts, inventory variance analysis, disposal reporting cycle counts and adjustment entries
  • Management of capital approval and monitoring processes within the plant including post-evaluation of major projects vs plan
  • Development and implementation of a costing model across the organization for use in product development/pricing activities; complete costing for new products, perform cost roll-ups and standard cost updates
  • Manage and submit stewardship, quota audits and reporting
  • Support annual financial audits and ensure plant compliance with ASPE, control framework and zero audit issues
  • The continual search for improvement opportunities both financial and operational while helping to drive a performance improvement culture across the sites
  • Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

About You

  • University degree in Accounting, Business or another relevant field
  • Accounting designation in good standing is required; CPA, CMA, CGMA or equivalent preferred
  • Related Work Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in finance including significant exposure and familiarity with CPG plant environments, standard costing implementation and enterprise resource planning systems
  • Required Skills: negotiation, persuasion, supervisory, analytical thinking, judgment and decision making, reading comprehension, management of material resources, project management, mathematics, time management, presentation, and operations analysis
  • Change: as a change agent, you will be very comfortable driving change and helping to overcome the natural resistance to it
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels; ability to interact with internal teams at all levels, management, customers, brokers and suppliers to achieve objectives
  • Occasional travel may be required to our plants across Canada
  • Proven track record of success and advancement in relevant areas
  • Team player with exceptional attention to detail and a high interest in ensuring excellent customer service levels. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a broad range of individuals and styles
  • Analytics: Proven analytical skills, attention to detail, sense of urgency, intellectual curiosity. Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict
  • Perpetual Learner: Frequently read texts (both print and non-print) include trade magazines, newsletters, journals, purchasing documentation, financial statements, international standards, trade terms and regulations
  • Software and Tools: Proficient in the entire suite of MS Office. ERP experience essential with MS Dynamics, Nav, SAP or Oracle considered a plus
  • Multi-Tasking: Strong ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate priorities. A self-starter having the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and effectively deal with ambiguous situations

Salary Range

$85,000 - $100,000/year
