Payroll Manager - 3 Month Contract to Permanent

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Payroll Manager is responsible for managing the company’s payroll process and implementing procedures to streamline processes and provide an efficient and accurate payroll service.

The Payroll Manager is responsible for performing all payroll banking functions, single payments and their modification, and approving remittances in a timely manner. As Payroll Manager, you will work closely with all departments to ensure that company policies and procedures are properly followed.

About the Opportunity

  • Manages the company’s in-house payroll process for approximately 800 full-time and part-time employees in Toronto and Montreal
  • Preparing and processing corporate payroll
  • Establishing payroll systems and practices for new store locations in ADP Workforce Now
  • Determines payroll liabilities and calculates federal, state, and provincial remittances including (CRA, WCB, CNESST, EHT, etc.)
  • Processing quarterly performance bonuses
  • Monitoring changes in payroll legislation for all provinces in which the organization has restaurants, and ensuring legal compliance
  • Processing and managing employee records, including issuing ROE’s and T4’s
  • Provides clear guidance to all managers relating to payroll matters
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing new and innovative practices to streamline processes and provide improved client services

About You

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in payroll, of which 3 years has been with accountability for year-end processing
  • Extensive knowledge of labour standards in multiple provinces
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now
  • Is entrepreneurial in their approach to work
  • Takes preliminary steps to do what needs to be done without outside direction
  • Shows genuine willingness to be held accountable for successes and failures
  • Seeks out and engages in self-improvement
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize diverse requirements
  • Proven aptitude for quick creative and technical thinking with acute attention to detail
  • Proven track record of high productivity, the ability to work effectively under pressure and ensure deadlines are met
  • Demonstrate an ability to maintain discretion and strict confidentiality
  • Outgoing personality with the ability to develop relationships with a broad mix of people through awareness of the audience and the flexibility to adapt to the environment
  • Excellent mathematical and written / verbal English communication skills
  • Completion of CPM, or currently enrolled in the CPM designation through the Canadian Payroll

Pay Rate

$30 - $35/hour
