Network and Computer System Administrator - 3+ Month Contract

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Network and Computer Systems Administrator to join our client’s IT team at their head office. The role of the Network and Computer Systems Administrator will be to provide help to users requiring technical assistance and expertise with   hardware, desktop application software, internal phone system and cell phones. Additionally, the Network and Computer Systems Administrator is expected to troubleshoot, repair, install, and configure hardware and software on PCs, laptops, printers and network infrastructure. A demonstrated commitment to (internal) customer service is critical as the role is a key contributor to the overall success and reputation of the IT department. Responsibilities include:

  • Provide all levels of technical support of computer hardware and software, telephone system and cell phones to internal and remote users
  • Design, configure, install, and proactively maintain servers to ensure optimal performance
  • Administration of Microsoft Active Directory, network services, and resources
  • Design, configure and maintain the voice and data infrastructure, including routers, switches, and cabling
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and strategies to support business objectives and priorities
  • Implement enterprise backup strategies, network security policies, and disaster recovery procedures
  • Comprehensive analysis and reporting of statistical data
  • Project management including budgeting and resource scheduling
  • Maintain an inventory of IT hardware and software assets for financial and legal compliance
  • Remote support and occasional onsite support to the company's warehouse in the USA
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve service levels and technical environment/infrastructure

About You

  • Related post-secondary education
  • Microsoft certification preferred
  • Must have 5+ years practical experience in a similar role
  • Superior customer service skills providing prompt and courteous support
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills allowing efficient and effective identification of problems and the ability to apply appropriate solutions
  • Responsible, quick learning, motivated, hard-working and proactive personality
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail combined with excellent follow-up skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization
  • Superior time management and prioritization skills including the ability to multitask
  • Strong experience of installing, configuring and supporting Microsoft technologies, including Windows operating systems, Exchange Server, Hyper-V, Office suites
  • Proven experience implementing and maintaining Active Directory in a multi-domain environment, managing security rights and Group Policy management
  • Strong networking skills configuring TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, IIS & Internet technologies, firewalls, VPN, and IPSec
  • Proven experience configuring Cisco network switches and routers
  • Proven experience building and maintaining imaging solutions to efficiently and effectively deploy computer resources
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Office 365 suite, Citrix XenApp, Veritas BackupExec, Symantec EndPoint Protection, iSCSI SANs, Symantec Ghost and digital telephone systems
  • Programming or scripting experience with VB, VBscript, HTML, ASP, Powershell, Kix and development in Microsoft Access
  • Experience supporting SharePoint, Project, Dynamics CRM, and Oracle database would be an advantage
  • Flexibility to work overtime, sometimes unscheduled, to support maintenance and project workload
