Senior Financial Analyst - 6 Month Contract

About the Opportunity

  • Assist with month-end activities such as the preparation and/review of monthly financial reports, inventory related analyses and other monthly and ongoing tasks
  • Assist with the implementation of accounting policies primarily relating to specific areas of IFRS 16 and other new IFRS pronouncements
  • Assist with the maintenance and updating of the Accounting Policy Manual
  • Assist with the testing of the lease system related to IFRS 16 and the updating of processes and controls for the new Standard
  • Work with various departments to plan and manage the accounting policies for transactions as they arise from the Business
  • Gathering and analyzing input from various departments and making recommendations on accounting policy questions
  • Assist with year-end external reporting activities, which includes preparing the external financial statements and notes in accordance with IFRS, perform various impairment testing and assist with audit requests
  • Assist the Controller’s Office in drafting and including relevant information within the MD&A
  • Research on latest IFRS developments and prepare IFRS position papers, including financial models and performing analytics to assess
  • Work with the Finance team to design and implement enhanced financial reporting controls
  • Work with the Manager to review unique transactions and make recommendations to align with accounting policies/processes
  • Work on various ad hoc projects and operational activities as directed by the Manager

About You

  • CPA, CA accounting designation is highly required
  • Managerial experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing with and applying IFRSs, including the preparation of accounting policy position papers and experience with IFRS 16 or lease accounting)
  • Minimum 6 years of public auditing/accounting experience at one of the large (“Big 4”) public accounting/audit firms (retail experience is an asset)
  • Experience with compliance and internal controls (i.e., SOX, ICFR, etc.)
  • External reporting experience in industry field area, with the ability to draft external financial statements in accordance with IFRS
  • Detailed oriented, with excellent presentation, communication, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, must have proven ability to multitask
  • Open minded, nimble, agile with change, and can learn by self-study
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain business relationships
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and strong financial modelling skills are an asset and experience and knowledge working with financial reporting systems (Oracle and other ERP system experience is a strong asset)
