Financial Analyst - 24 Month Contract

Our client is sourcing for Financial Analyst for a 2 year contract. 

About the Opportunity

Revenue accountability

  • Prepares monthly revenue recognition entries
  • Determines the appropriate accounting allocation of semi-monthly transfer payments received from the Ministry and other cheques received from government agencies
  • Assesses the appropriate accounting treatment for revenue sources (receivable or deferral) with the full understanding of the associated activities
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts associated with revenue
  • Forecasts and prepares budgets for balance sheet accounts associated with revenue
  • Assesses reasonableness of fee and other mandatory fee totals by relating to enrolment data
  • Researches and analyzes reasons for increases / decreases from the prior year for all revenue categories
  • Reconciles grant revenue to contracts and Ministry records to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records

Provides essential Financial Consolidation Services:

  • Prepares all financial reports as required for financial consolidation with the Province of Ontario’s financial statements
  • Prepares actual and budgeted Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Operations and reports for financial consolidation into MAESD and ultimately the Province of Ontario’s Financial Statements
  • Obtains a thorough understanding of the complex and evolving CFIS application and its interdependencies and assesses if it meets the on-going reporting needs of the Province and the MAESD
  • Monitors and updates account, GRE (Government Reporting Entity) and the Program tables in Access database for completeness and accuracy
  • Validates that the current chart of accounts is correctly mapped to the CFIS chart of accounts and update mapping of new accounts, understanding complexity of the meaning of MAESD definitions and requirements, exercising professional judgement entailing further research for grey areas
  • Ensures that the trial balance and other financial information accurately translate to the CFIS trial balance and reconciles the various CFIS Financial Statements to the respective ones in the Financial Statements
  • Completes all on-line reports and Financial Statement note disclosure, and ensures accuracy prior to management approval
  • Determines variances between the budget information and actual results; determines means for more accurate forecasts

Special project audits and other financial analysis and reporting

  • Prepares the annual charitable information return for submission to the CRA
  • Prepares, co-ordinates and quality assures financial reports for specific special projects
  • Prepares audit working papers and represents the primary contact with external auditors on specifically assigned special project audits.
  • Prepares financial reports for trust fund initiatives
  • Researches and recommends the appropriate accounting treatment for complex business transactions with third parties.  Presents the accounting treatment effects on cash flow, financial statements and budget
  • Prepares and submits financial reports to Statistics Canada
  • Responsible for Ministry financial reporting

About You

  • An Honours Degree or equivalent in such disciplines as Business, Commerce, or a related field is required at the point of hire into this position
  • A certified public accountant designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA) is a MUST have
  • Minimum 5 years similar work related experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (with a focus on data manipulation tools – Excel & Access)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and well developed problem solving skills, including PowerPoint
  • Professional skills including ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations to senior management
  • Strong accounting and process improvement skills
