Windows System Administrator – 12 Month Contract

As a Systems Administrator, you will perform daily duties of backups, maintenance on applications and OS, patching, tuning and troubleshooting. You will configure systems-based on requested changes. Follow CM process to effectively manage environment changes. You will be on-call, as required during the year, supporting mission critical supporting systems. You will also provide necessary instruction and documentation for change requests, installing operating systems, loading (installing) COTS products, and configuring operating systems and COTS products. The system administrator shall possess knowledge of tracking and analyzing performance and resource utilization of the assigned systems, and shall have experience in recommending changes, upgrades, and enhancements based on the technical analysis. Certifications in operating systems and other COTS products are desired.

This position is well-suited for a person who wishes to be involved with many different aspects of platform engineering, which includes having some exposure to or willingness to learn Red Hat Linux, storage, and advanced scripting for all of the above. There is an operations focus as well to this systems engineering and administration role. The candidate must have an eagerness and ability to learn new skills and work within a team. This position will also be a crucial team member to participate in building the go to market offering in recruiting new clients.

About the Opportunity

  • Lead in the planning, design and implementation of 3 tier - IT application infrastructure and provide necessary support during application development life cycle and releases
  • Support the IT application infrastructure stack (OS, Storage, Network, Database, Web, and Virtualization) and ultimately accountable for the high availability of the production infrastructure
  • Ensure company standard server technologies, proper performance and capacity standards are followed. Participate in planning, design and maintenance of enterprise IT infrastructure Lead problem resolution and coordination
  • Possess knowledge of tracking and analyzing performance and resource utilization of the assigned systems, and shall have experience in recommending changes, upgrades, and enhancements based on the technical analysis
  • Perform daily operational duties of backups, maintenance on applications and OS, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Flexible working hours - able to support occasional nights, weekends, and call-ins
  • Able to quickly adapt to a constantly changing environment
  • Install, configure, monitor, manage and maintain all Windows/Linux based servers
  • Create and maintain Windows server documentation
  • Create and maintain Windows system administration processes and procedures
  • Install, configure, manage and maintain all Windows server based applications
  • Ensure all Windows based systems have the appropriate patches installed; to include security, applications and OS
  • Ensure all Windows based systems are running current versions of antivirus software with current virus definition files
  • Create, manage and maintain security groups. Create, manage and maintain user accounts. Monitor, manage and maintain storage systems and devices
  • Create and maintain Windows server images
  • Recommend system enhancements, including but not limited to, servers, applications, storage, processes and procedures
  • Recommend when additional system resources are required or when existing resources should be retired
  • Ensure all appropriate asset management functions are completed as required
  • Ensure all Windows servers are configured to comply with all appropriate security policies
  • All other tasks as assigned by the IT site lead or IT manager Secondary Responsibilities
  • Create, deploy and maintain Windows desktop and notebook images
  • Create, deploy and maintain Windows desktop and notebook distribution packages for software applications
  • Ensure all Windows desktop and notebook computers are configured to comply with all appropriate security policies
  • Assist the help desk respond to end users requests/issues

About You

  • Windows System administration with exposure to or a willingness to learn Linux System administration
  • Possess 4-7 years of relevant work experience - Systems Administration
  • Exposure to or willingness to learn Red Hat Linux Administration
  • Experience and knowledge of Networks and Firewall technologies such as Azure, SonicWall and WatchGuard
  • Exposure to or willingness to learn Red Hat Linux 5/6 OS Management and Administration
  • Satellite Server Management
  • VMWare and/or virtual server environment administration
  • LDAP administration
  • Active Directory Management
  • Understanding of PKI certification and applying to webservers
  • Perl and other scripting languages
  • Virtualization of IT applications
  • Education in a computer related discipline
  • Oracle database familiarity
  • Customer oriented
