Unix Systems Administrator

Our technology client is growing again and currently seeking a Senior Unix Systems Administrator to join their team. In this role you will be focused on supporting the Unix environment but will also be expected to support all other technologies, including Microsoft products, Windows environment, VMWare, Active Directory, and others. 

About the Opportunity

  • Management, maintain and troubleshooting experience in a Unix environment
  • Lead the management and troubleshooting of Two HP Non-Stop environments which include Backup and Production
  • Management and troubleshooting of Keyups and HP Atalla HSM
  • Install operating system software, patches and upgrades
  • Configure, optimize, monitor and fine-tune all operating system software and servers
  • Perform systems, applications and server backups and recovery
  • Continue the design, purchase and build of the server environment
  • Strong understanding of cloud technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft Office 365 and Azure
  • Strong experience with diagnosing/managing Level II/III+ system errors, Microsoft Windows (2003 Server/R2, Server 2008/R2, Server 2012/R2, VMware ESXi 5+), Active Directory, Exchange, Dell AppAssure, McAfee, VMware, Cloud Services, etc.
  • Resolve, escalate and provide status updates to internal team members and Senior Managers

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree/diploma in Information Technology
  • 5+ years of related experience as a Unix Systems Admin
  • Superior UNIX support, maintenance and troubleshooting experience
  • Build, design, deploy, fix, maintain and support all software and hardware
  • Manage and support the Data Centre operations both physically and remotely
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfortable speaking with all levels of staff
  • Very organized with the ability to create and present technical documents
  • Ability to take direction and prioritize/manage your tasks independently or in a team setting
  • Professional certifications are a major asset, including but not limited to Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or VMware certifications.
