Technical Writer – 6 Month Contract

The essence of this role is to create and communicate technical work instructions to our internal employees and stakeholders using the most innovative technologies and software platforms.

The position is a newly created position and will report directly to the Managing Director. The ideal candidate is passionate, talented, creative, organized, detail oriented, and can work independently with little supervision, yet deliver exceptional results. In order to fulfill the mandate of this position the individual must be technically capable, as well as have the ability to interpret the region’s vision and articulate it within this role. You need to have fluent English writing skills, be an excellent communicator, and work well under pressure and in a very diverse, fast paced environment.

About the Opportunity

  • Prepare, develop and disseminate instruction manuals, standard operating procedural documents and other supporting documents in order to communicate a wide spectrum of information to internal customers, mostly warehouse associates and operations management, in a manner that is more effective and easy for the user to understand and apply to their job functions
  • Collaborate with Operations Management, local IT, WMS SME’s and other technical staff, such as Super Users, to ensure our work procedures and instructions are more effective thereby resulting in less errors in the operations
  • Create documents using photographs, drawings, diagrams, charts and software animation that increase users’ understanding of the process and associate tools and equipment within the warehouse environment
  • Content needs to be delivered across various platforms based on the appropriate target audience
  • Revise documents as required based on new work instructions, certifications, and or changes in the existing procedures

About you

  • Ability to determine the needs of end user and select the right type of technical
  • Documentation to deliver an appropriate solution for work instructions and procedural documents to the users
  • Analyze current business processes and determine room for improvements with input from operational users and management
  • Ensure alignment among all operational policies, procedures and ongoing improvement projects
  • Fluent in English and can write, speak and present clearly across a variety of settings, organizational levels, and diverse work environment
  • Facilitate process mapping, project planning and user training meetings
  • Increase users’ understanding of process flows through drawings, diagrams and charts and selecting the appropriate medium for the audience – such as manuals, online videos, PDF, and other smart applications
  • Revise and update documents on an ongoing basis
  • Interact with a diverse group of users and customers – both internal and external
  • Systematically interact with process owners and users to obtain feedback and to verify operational processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications or Journalism
  • Three (3) years’ experience as a Technical Writer
  • Above average software knowledge in either Madcap Flare, xMetal, Doc-o-matic or similar types of software used in technical business writing
