Senior Systems Engineer (Salaried Contract or FTE - UNIONIZED)

About the Opportunity

  • Lead and manage a team of Systems Engineers
  • Define and establish new guidelines, procedures, and principles when the underlying work processes are changed
  • Ensure continuous improvement and compliance with established standards and best practices
  • Manage processes to meet departmental objectives, ensure deliverables are met and timelines adhered to
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships to negotiate rates, service agreements, etc.
  • Discuss and resolve issues, understand current state and business processes in the identification of future needs and opportunities
  • Prepare and present business cases for proposed infrastructure project(s)
  • Engage in the development of contracts and Statement of Works
  • Participate in RFX (i.e. RFIQ, RFQ and RFP) processes to select quality vendor(s) for providing products and services
  • Assist management in preparing annual budget
  • Participate in the development of long term infrastructure technology and capacity strategy
  • Identify, determine and design infrastructure system specifications and hardware/software compatibility
  • Analyze business and non-functional requirements for corporate business projects
  • Providing input and feedback on new and emerging technology and assess how new technology will fit into the existing infrastructure
  • Recommend the best solutions for deploying new technology
  • Plan, design and review the architectural model of hardware infrastructure for the integration of both business and software applications
  • Liaise with business and application areas to review and assess new technology solutions
  • Review and analyzing hardware capability and create/develop the architectural diagrams and the implementation strategy
  • Work with service providers to ensure that the design specifications meet industry standards and business requirements
  • Plan, lead and coordinate infrastructure installation/upgrade projects
  • Develop system deployment strategies and options
  • Identify any impacts and/or risks from a business perspective to avoid system down time/outages
  • Define and develop a technology roadmap in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to aid in recovery of critical business functions while maintaining and recommending changes to said roadmap to accommodate new business requirements and modifying the recovery plan to align with those requirements
  • Develop and maintain technology recovery planning best practices guidelines while developing, updating and testing technology recovery plans
  • Provide expert advice and direction to management and support areas in identifying needs and/or changes to the infrastructure technology
  • Translate business requirements into meaningful data for trending and analyzing system performance
  • Identify system shortfalls and deficiencies while predicting and revising performance/capacity needs for the enterprise and recommending system capacity upgrades as appropriate
  • Oversee capacity utilization of all business applications to ensure compliance with software licensing
  • Explore opportunities to enhance/improve the reliability, availability and serviceability of the infrastructure
  • Investigate cost saving opportunities through research to refine, tune, modify and adjust different system technology components
  • Assess current system architecture and developing strategies to optimize system capacity and performance
  • Present business case on acquisition of new technology and
  • Ensure smooth and continuous operation of system performance and availability of the organizations enterprise information technology
  • Manage service providers design, build, installation, configuration and maintenance of system technology
  • Inspect, examine and validate the setup of systems
  • Support the development and implementation of new application releases

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technology-related major preferred
  • YOU MUST have an MCSE designation and provide proof of certification
  • 7+ years of Systems Engineering experience managing large enterprise environments
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience in related IT disciplines such as data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications, database administration and outsourced systems
  • Strong leadership and management abilities
  • A deep understanding of the interdependent relationship between infrastructure, information security and the applications/services they enable
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technology solutions to business problems
  • Must have strong organizational skills and multitasking capabilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
