About the Opportunity

  • Oversee payroll administrative services and related functions to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payroll
  • Supervise daily activities of the payroll team and assist with tasks if necessary to meet deadlines
  • Review and approve all reconciliations of the payroll general ledger accounts
  • Ensure compliance with all related federal and provincial legislation, company policies as they relate to administration of payroll
  • Provide information and payroll-related data and reports required for corporate decision-making
  • Lead and/or participate in department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion of projects
  • Manage multiple key initiatives simultaneously
  • Manage relationships with vendors responsible for payroll funding and tax remittances
  • Work closely with internal Workday Operations team and confirm proper testing of payroll system enhancements and upgrades including integration with Accounting systems
  • Partner with HR and internal business units / functions to understand their payroll needs and business challenges
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resources and internal business partners to insure adherence to payroll deadlines, ensuring payroll has adequate time to perform necessary pre-payroll audits, etc.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of payroll department staff by making recommendations of hiring, re-assignment, employment status change, promotion, demotion and/or dismissal of staff
  • Provide leadership, coaching, development, performance management, technical guidance and advice to payroll team
  • Responsible for establishing department goals and objectives
  • Research, recommend and implement new or enhanced policies, procedures and processes to improve operational effectiveness
  • Perform other duties as assigned

About You  

  • College diploma or university degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Minimum 5 years related experience, including supervision of payroll staff
  • Experience in developing and recommending corporate procedures, managing budgets and providing input to strategic/business plans
  • Workday payroll system experience preferred but not required
  • Workday Payroll knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant payroll legislation including Canada Revenue Agency requirements laws, regulations and guidelines
  • Knowledge of payroll accounting as it relates to general ledger
  • Proficiency in interpreting policies, procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office applications including a high level of competence in Excel
  • Enhanced conflict resolution skills and the ability to handle difficult situations
  • Strong ability to lead change and engage, develop, and motivate teams
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to convey information accurately and concisely
  • Bilingual English/French is preferred
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
  • High degree of tact, diplomacy and discretion in dealing with confidential, sensitive information
  • Service-orientation and high degree of internal customer focus with the ability to ensure cooperation from others while maintaining professional and respectful relationships at various levels of the organization

Salary Range
$80,000 - $90,000/year
