PAYROLL AND BENEFITS SPECIALIST WANTED FOR A 6 MONTH CONTRACT. Our client is seeking an individual to join them on a 6 month contract with the potential of becoming a permanent position.

Payroll & Benefits Specialist - 6 Month Contract with Opportunity to Become Permanent

About the Opportunity

  • Payroll System - System maintenance and implementation. Continue to maintain by completing annual salary review, installing and/or initiating payroll software, auto bank system, RRSP system, etc., based on data direction from management
  • Employee File Maintenance - Complete employee rate changes, change to existing employee's defaults, install a new employee to computer programs, open an employee file, distribute, receive and file paperwork, and maintain payroll files
  • Wage Payroll - Receive and sort timesheets; review and memo hours, communicate with managers. Enter wage time sheets, run reports, review, correct, print register, post the run and file reports and time sheets
  • Salary Payroll - Run reports, review, correct, print register, post the run and file reports
  • Submit payroll journal entries to finance department 
  • Annual Government Returns - Use computer generated reports to prepare T4 Summary and T4s. Review for correctness.  Prepare other T4s and T5s as requested. Prepare old records and assure confidential storage
  • Worker's Compensation Board - Prepare report and voucher for periodic installment payments; submit to Accounts Payable. Prepare annual Worker's Compensation Statement of Payroll for each province
  • Group Insurance - Complete Employee Group Insurance; maintain records for Employee Group Insurance coverage; facilitate claims from employees to carrier and benefits from carrier to employees; assure correct deductions
  • Payroll Training - Train Franchise Partners and Store Managers during their training days regarding payroll, record keeping and legal responsibilities
  • On an ongoing basis, advise Franchise Partners and Store Managers on matters related to payroll and group benefits. Follow up on inquiries in a timely manner

About You

  • 5 years of payroll and benefits experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to take on complex tasks in a calm manor
  • Ability to work with a systematic approach
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Ceridian Powerpay 
  • Ceridian Dayforce

Pay Range
$22-$26/hour
