Linux Systems Administrator (Intermediate) – 6 Month Contract

About the Opportunity

  • Lead in the planning, design and implementation of 3 tier - IT application infrastructure and provide necessary support during application development life cycle and releases
  • Support the IT application infrastructure stack (OS, Storage, Network, Database, Web, and Virtualization) and ultimately accountable for the high availability of the production infrastructure
  • Ensure company standard server technologies, proper performance and capacity standards are followed
  • Participate in planning, design and maintenance of enterprise IT infrastructure Lead problem resolution and coordination
  • Perform daily operational duties of backups, maintenance on applications and OS, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Install, configure, monitor, manage and maintain all Windows/Linux based servers
  • Create and maintain Windows//Linux server documentation
  • Create and maintain Windows/Linux system administration processes and procedures
  • Install, configure, manage and maintain all Windows/Linux server based applications
  • Ensure all Windows/Linux based systems have the appropriate patches installed; to include security, applications and OS
  • Ensure all Windows/Linux based systems are running current versions of antivirus software with current virus definition files
  • Create, manage and maintain security groups
  • Create, manage and maintain user accounts
  • Monitor, manage and maintain storage systems and devices
  • Create and maintain Windows/Linux server images
  • Recommend system enhancements, including but not limited to, servers, applications, storage, processes and procedures
  • Recommend when additional system resources are required or when existing resources should be retired
  • Ensure all appropriate asset management functions are completed as required
  • Ensure all Windows/Linux servers are configured to comply with all appropriate security policies
  • All other tasks as assigned by the IT site lead or IT manager Secondary Responsibilities
  • Create, deploy and maintain Windows/Linux desktop and notebook images
  • Create, deploy and maintain Windows/Linux desktop and notebook distribution packages for software applications
  • Ensure all Windows/Linux desktop and notebook computers are configured to comply with all appropriate security policies
  • Assist the help desk respond to end users requests/issues

About you

  • Windows system administration and Linux system administration
  • Possess 4-7 years of relevant work experience in Systems Administration
  • Red Hat Linux Administration
  • Possess knowledge of tracking and analyzing performance and resource utilization of the assigned systems
  • Experience in recommending changes, upgrades, and enhancements based on the technical analysis
  • Flexible working hours - able to support occasional nights, weekends, and call-ins
  • Able to quickly adapt to a constantly changing environment
  • Redhat Linux 5/6 OS Management and Administration
  • Satellite Server Management
  • VMWare and/or virtual server environment administration
  • LDAP administration
  • Active Directory Management
  • Understanding of PKI certification and applying to webservers
  • Perl and other scripting languages
  • Virtualization of IT applications
  • Education in a computer related discipline
  • Oracle database familiarity
  • Customer oriented
