About the Company
Our client who is a well-funded and fast growing REIT, is looking to hire a senior level Divisional Controller to their team. Reporting to the CFO, the Divisional Controller is responsible for the management of the daily accounting functions including monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting cycles. About the Opportunity  

  • Plan, direct and coordinate all accounting operational functions 
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results for properties under management
  • Ensure that accurate and timely financial reports are done monthly for the commercial and retail portfolios
  • Oversee monthly accounting system, which includes lease set–up, rent rolls, accounts receivable tracking and analysis, EFT, CAM/Tax billings, tenant disputes, etc. Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
  • Ensure that accounts payable operates in a controlled environment. Review invoices for coding and approve purchase orders
  • Prepare monthly forecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions
  • Supervise the billing of asset management, property management, wealth management, incentive fees, acquisition, disposition and other fees monthly, quarterly, annually in accordance with the respective agreements
  • Implement a process to record transactions and compare costs incurred to budget and performance analysis of management and REITs
  • Maintain accounting system for various funds and corporate entities including cash calls and disbursements
  • Perform cash management function, including cash flow analysis and contribution to corporate cash management. Bank reconciliation review and approval, where necessary. Review inter-company billings to parent company, including the follow up of payment
  • Plan, direct and coordinate annual budget process for Commercial and Retail REITs
  • Coordinate year end, income tax filing, and other activities with external auditors
  • Coordinate government remittances, related to HST, corporate taxes, associated payroll remittances, etc.
  • Manage and develop plans related to procedural efficiencies, costs savings and further economies of scale type projects. Provide recommendations for improvement to current accounting operations and implement new processes
  • Manage the Yardi accounting/operational system and evaluation opportunities for improvement in software. Set up of properties, GLs, companies and other core set up functions as they pertain to Yardi
  • Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, directing work and appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems as well as make decisions regarding hiring, disciplining and policy

About You

  • CPA designation
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Manager from a Big Four firm

Salary Range
$110,000-$120,000/year
