Director, Enterprise Risk Management

The Enterprise Risk & Audit Services (ERAS) Department is responsible for providing risk, internal audit, and advisory services for the company and it's affiliates. ERAS is a valued function within the business where members have found progressive career paths both within the team, other functions as well as the wider group of companies. 

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) plays an important role in the Company’s governance and control Frameworks. ERM provides expertise and guidance in the application of risk identification, measurement, reporting and mitigation activities. ERM assesses the effectiveness of risk management activities designed to reduce the inherent risk to an acceptable level based on the company’s risk appetite framework. ERM also supports ERAS in conducting analysis and benchmarking in an advisory capacity and act as change agents in strategic areas.

Reporting to Vice President, Enterprise Risk & Audit Services, the Director is accountable for managing ERM activities and executing on the ERM framework. The Director will also be managing the ERM improvement roadmap to achieve world-class status based on a recent roadmap developed based on stakeholder expectations, benchmark with world-class programs and approved by management and the Audit committee.  

About the Opportunity  

  • Oversee the planning and execution of the ERM cycle, including risk framework updates, risk assessments, risk monitoring and reporting to key stakeholders
  • Identifying and defining existing/emerging enterprise risks, along with emerging industry trends
  • Facilitate risk assessments for business units relative to their strategies and consolidate and validate risks at multiple layers
  • Driving a quarterly review of risk profile and the overseeing sufficiency and status of mitigation plans and actions
  • Continuing to enhance the organization’s risk appetite framework and risk indicators
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of risk mitigation plans across the business; developing, implementing and driving plans for improvements where significant risk exists
  • Collaborating with Internal Audit Services to evaluate enterprise risk and compliance activities, and ensure that design and effectiveness testing results from audit are incorporated into risk information. Also, work with Internal Audit in conducting project/audit specific risk assessments
  • Preparing risk reports to key stakeholders including senior management, Audit Committee, Risk Management Steering Committee and other stakeholders
  • Identifying risk scenarios and stress testing budget and plans using analytics and modeling tools
  • Enhancing risk management training and communication to the various stakeholders
  • Work with other internal providers of risk and assurance services to align activities, eliminate  redundancies, ensure appropriate coverage
  • Continuing to integrate risk management into the business agenda (strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting, internal audit and compliance, and other functional areas)
  • Ensuring that risks transfer through insurance are appropriate and coverage is adequate
  • Maintain mitigation strategies and actions log and performing regular follow up with action owners to ensure management’s timely completion of the remediation action plans
  • Train and develop staff, including overseeing annual performance evaluation and career development
  • Support the Vice President, Enterprise Risk & Audit Services in continuous process improvements and management of special projects as required
  • Possess strong business acumen and common sense
  • Possess high degree of professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidentiality
  • Demonstrate ability to take a consulting approach and work cohesively with Senior Management across the business while being “cost-benefit & value-added” conscious
  • Demonstrate knowledge of internal controls and ability to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls
  • Build credible relationships with key contacts in the business
  • Exceptional planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking and project management skills to complete assignments in an efficient and effective manner
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and written skills

About You

  • Undergraduate degree in business or other related discipline
  • At least 8 years of relevant ERM experience, 3 of which in a management role, with foundational understanding of operational, financial and information system risks and controls
  • Relevant certification in risk management or related field
  • Strong knowledge with governance and controls frameworks such as ISO and COSO.
  • Experience in a food manufacturing and retail environment is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to identify business-critical needs, analyze complex situations with view to determining causes, problem solving skills with demonstrated creative, innovative and strategic thinking
  • Strong knowledge of risk scenario stress testing and modelling
  • Ability to manage and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Possess strong management and organizational skills, with planning and strong project management skills (including prioritizing skills)
  • Ability to work independently while leveraging resources (people, processes, departments, tools) to complete the work effectively and efficiently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly developed and effective communication skills, particularly in the areas of group facilitation and presentation
  • Ability to build excellent interpersonal relationships and work effectively as part of a team
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada and travel abroad without restriction (including having a valid passport); travel may be up to 20%

Salary Range
$120,000-$130,000/year
