Controller

Reporting to the VP Finance and Operations, this role requires a candidate who understands processes, internal controls and is able to meet routinely tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be responsible for all areas of accounting, financial reporting, cash-flow analysis, accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, capital management and budget management. The incumbent will also liaise with auditors, financial institutions, customers, vendors and regulatory agencies. The Controller will be a key part of the Finance team supporting management planning and decision making by identifying, maintaining, and evaluating information and recommending actions. The successful candidate will also have strong technical problem-solving skills, the ability to research and be resourceful, and a desire to take on new challenges and excel in a fast-paced environment. 

About the Opportunity  

  • Effectively manage, lead, and develop the finance team
  • Manage the company’s corporate accounting function
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with all key stakeholders including investors, executives, peers, and vendors by maintaining credibility and being proactive
  • Establish and implement both long and short-term goals and objectives for the Finance team
  • Maintain general ledger, trial balances, and monthly reconciliations
  • Preparation, review and analytics around monthly financial statements
  • Oversee all aspects of invoicing, revenue recognition, and expenses
  • Corporate taxes – locally and internationally - including tax planning
  • International Operations – initial set up, ongoing oversite and intercompany arrangements
  • Key person with regards to complex accounting issues including software revenue recognition
  • Monthly commission modeling, calculation, plan set up and employee communication
  • Ownership of annual financial statement audit including preparation of the financial statements and note disclosures
  • Review and monitor cash activity to ensure cash requirements are managed and forecasted
  • Other special projects as they are identified
  • Provide timely, relevant and accurate reporting and analysis of each department’s financial performance against historical and budgeted results to facilitate decision-making toward achievement of the budget and strategic plans
  • Demonstrate appropriate understanding/working knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls and apply them
  • Identify non-value added processes within the department and seek solutions

About You

  • CPA, CA designation
  • 5 years of finance and accounting experience, including preparation of audited financial statements and associated notes; preferably with a technology software company and experience managing and mentoring a finance team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Expert MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel (pivot tables, macros)
  • Experience using Microsoft Great Plains and Management Reporter for MS Dynamics is an asset
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines and multi-tasking organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands and to switch from complex to routine tasks when required
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and listening) and the ability to manage internal and external issues in an effective and timely manner

Salary Range
$100,000-$110,000/year
