Controller, Real Estate Management
About the Company
Our client, with a portfolio of over 3 million square feet comprising of retail, commercial, industrial and mixed use properties, is looking for a Controller to join their team in Toronto. Their services cover the continuum of property ownership, starting from project proposal, acquisition and development, to leasing, property management and asset management.
About the Opportunity
- Prepare financial statements and other statutory management reports
- Review and reconciliation of the GL and Sub Ledger accounts
- Prepare audit working papers for external audit
- Responsible for special projects, monitoring and reporting requirements
- Budget development and property management administration
- Client Reports: monthly/quarterly/annual
- Property taxes and oversight of re-assessment claims
- Take full responsibility and accountability for the performance and efficiency of the company’s accounting group; ensure that the property accounting group handles the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of the senior level properties and provide the value added service to clients
- Act as a leader of Accounting department and main contact to clients and company’s internal departments in an approachable, cooperative and professional manner
- Utilize leadership, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, time management, effective communication and delegation skills to achieve the desired results
- Advise clients and staff on accounting treatments and policies
- Attend client meetings
- Deal with external auditors
- Implement internal control practices and procedures
- Assess current and future staffing needs as well as organizational/accounting structure effectiveness and lead the hiring process
- Take overall responsibility for ensuring appropriate levels of training, development and continuous improvement of staff, processes and procedures
- Take overall responsibility for performance evaluations including constructive feed backs and salary reviews
- Take overall responsibility for conflict resolution, staff motivation as well as maintaining a positive work environment
- Make difficult decisions and keep senior management informed of any issues impacting the overall performance of the group
Salary Range
$95,000 - $115,000/year
